Summary

Buckhead, Georgia is a place where everything is perfect and everything is in it’s place but it teems with something else under the surface. This is the strange place that Olivia, Shannon, Karin, and Crystal live. In this place that is possibly too good to be true with all the society, fundraisers, and fashion lies a beauty salon named Glow. Glow is owned and run by Jenny and her colleague Keisha. But drama is unfolding in their perfectly strange town as marriages fall apart, a new wife moves in, and society events take centre stage. As a series of events takes place sides must be taken and it is up to you (the reader) to be the witness; creating your own conclusions. Is anyone who they seem to be? Is everything truly what it seems? Who is the one of the circle that will end up dead?

Thoughts and Review

This audiobook had absolutely awesome execution. The narrators: Andi Arndt, Hillary Huber, Elizabeth Evans, Brittany Pressley, Cassandra Campbell complimented one another beautifully while standing out from one another. The attitude of Olivia was genuinely oozing of that privilege and attitude (that you just love to hate and won’t trust.) Jenny seems so down-to-earth that you would love to have as both a friend or fellow business owner. Karin is a successful real estate agent with a zest for pushing herself beyond. Shannon is jilted and yet still finds a way to fight back out of the darkness. Crystal who everyone thinks is the empty-headed new wife (country bumpkin) is so much more than she seems; she is friendly with a down to earth country charm and determination.

I loved this audiobook. It was so easy to get into and stick with. Before I even knew it I was several chapters in; I was so curious!

The ending was beautifully crafted. As you listen you are wondering just who is the one who will be dead and you can’t help but get wrapped up into the drama of the women. It is so interesting to be the fly on the wall watching the women interacting on their favourite stage at the salon. Using Jenny and Keisha as stage props for their play the women are oblivious to the under currents running beneath their feet. It created an exciting atmosphere to listen in. The town dynamics come further into focus with each chapter rising into a crescendo at the end. The book was really impossible to put down; I just had to hear what happened next.

WARNING: I imagine that reading the book would also be sure to have the same page turner feel; I think “One of us is dead,” hits all the criteria to be a late night one more chapter status. The audiobook even reaches that status as the “just listen to one more chapter,” gets thrown out the window.

Recommendations

If you are looking for a fast paced audiobook OR a real page turner this is the book for you! If you have ever found yourself wondering what those soap opera like groups of people are like behind the scenes this book will pique your interests. With backstabbing, drama, and secrets friendship dynamics are put to the test and illuminated with the best and worst lights. By the conclusion of the story nothing would surprise you about these women. There will be times when reading or listening to this book takes physical form when you loudly cheer, laugh, or say, “WTF” out loud. But with a flare of the dramatic, thrilling moments to catch your breath, and oozing-off-the-page personalities this novel will be well worth the read (or listen!) Enjoy! Happy Reading!
