I found a quote that I think would be perfect for a Monday. It is the first day of a week. I am trying to find the oomph needed to get my week off on a great footing. This quote provides the perfect amount of “don’t sit on your ass waiting” mentality and the sense of autonomy that I have (even if it is located deep down under a pile of laundry.) All in all it is the kick in the pants that is nice to get on a Monday.

The first day of the week is a tricky day to say the least. We are coming off this great two day weekend of good vibes. We are fighting off the urge to slide into the social construct of the “Mondays,” that in all reality is a complete fabrication. We have this overwhelming desire to set a good standard that the entire week will be built on. We have this idea of making this THE day to actually do something. With all this pressure that are both a figment and very real (of course) we need a kick in the pants to gain perspective.
It’s so easy to get caught up in our own heads, but the true progress happens when we take action. Forget the “what ifs” and “what could be(s)” and start building the life you want, one action at a time. Of course, at first this seems all a little easier said than actually done. But it isn’t. Start with some baby step goals. Start with each day at a time. A small goal or task you can accomplish each day of this week. Start some new habits. As you complete these small goals, small tasks, and start that new habit you will start to puff up your chest like a proud peacock. (That’s right, puff it up my friend you earned it!)
Now that your chest is all puffed up and you are feeling proud of yourself… Now you can start making a big wave in your life or your week or your month! Whatever your heart desires! Now you start making bigger goals. Not so big that you will crash and burn. You want to make them bigger than the last ones but smaller than your eyes can get.
I think the important thing is that instead of constantly checking the clock and keeping stock of everything we need to do that we find a balance with what is realistic. On some days I keep track in a separate list of things that I have done on that day. For me, I find this helpful because there is always more to do than I can do in one day. So to dodge the end of the day disappointment that I didn’t get it all done I can look at that list of things I did do. With that list I can counteract any negative self-talk that I didn’t finish, that I am not good enough, or that I am another sort of failure that day. Having that list is the proof against that voice that I am capable, I am smart, and I am enough every single day.
With every goal that you succeed at – big or small – your momentum, pride, and confidence will grow. With this newfound confidence you are breeding the courage to take more actions. And with that you are conquering fear one step at a time!
