Goal: To highlight the everyday Canadians whose quiet acts of love bring our communities together.

The Moose Jaw Baker: Adeola “Dee” Afolayan

A true local gem, Adeola “Dee” Afolayan, owner of DeeBesties Nigerian Restaurant and Bar, embodies “Love in Action”. She quietly donates free birthday cakes to neighbours in need because she believes everyone deserves to feel celebrated on their special day. She leads with kindness, staying out of the spotlight to focus on the impact.

The Indigenous Language Champion: Belinda Daniels

Based in Saskatchewan, Belinda Daniels is a “language warrior” and the founder of nÄ“hiyawak Summer Language Experience. Her land-based Cree immersion camps help youth reconnect with their mother tongue and mental well-being.

The Teen Food Security Hero: Myles Odlozinski

At just 15 years old, Myles Odlozinski successfully pitched a Community Fridge to his city council in Orillia, Ontario. He works tirelessly to fight the stigma of food insecurity through a system of direct community sharing.

The Young Fundraiser: Willa

After learning about the history of Residential Schools, nine-year-old Willa felt moved to act. She organized a fundraiser that raised over $1,000 for the Indian Residential School Survivors Society through the Mama Bear Clan in Winnipeg.

Sharing Culture Through Food: Hanan Tahlo

Originally from Syria, Hanan Tahlo recently marked the beginning of Ramadan by donating traditional Syrian wraps to guests at Hope Ministries Moose Jaw. Her donation offered the community more than just a meal; it provided a beautiful glimpse into her family’s culture and the spirit of charity.

Final Thoughts

There are Dees, Belindas, Myles, Willas, and Hanans in every corner of this beautiful country. They remind us that we all have a role to play in building a better Canada. Canadians are incredible.
