At this point you are probably wondering why look at pictures? Because our brains respond to symbols and colours before words. So, just so there is something useful for everyone I have broken this up into three sections. The Paper Path, The Digital Path, and Words of Power.
Section 1: The Paper Path (Tactile and Grounded)
The Setup
Clear a space, gather your supplies, put on music, and light a candle. Essentially set the mood for yourself to get creative.
The Goods
Magazines, printed photos, glue, scissors, markers, etc.
What To Do
The goal isn’t to create a perfect piece of art. The purpose is to collect images, colours, and words that represent the FEELING of your intention. When you look at it, you should feel a sense of “ahh, yes, that’s where I’m headed.”
The Gentle Twist
Let go of any expectations and silence you inner critic with really chewy taffy. It doesn’t have to be pretty; it just has to feel like you!
Section 2: The Digital Path (Modern and Accessible)
The Tools
Pintrest and Upsplash for collecting. Canva for creating.
What to Do
The point is to create with your imagination the FEELING of your intention. You are collecting images, colours, and words that represent your intention. When you look at it, you should feel a sense of “ahh, yes, that’s where I’m headed.”
Pro-Tip
You can make a smaller version of your creation to be used as a phone lock screen or wallpaper on your phone or desktop so it can be a “gentle nudge” every time you open your device.
Section 3: Words of Power (Affirmations)
The Focus
- It is possible to maintain momentum while removing the pressure.
- I am moving at a pace that sustains me.
- Every day I am building my future.
- I allow myself the grace to grow at my own pace, knowing that even the smallest step is still a step forward.
- What is a feeling I want to invite more of into my daily routine (Ex., ease, curiosity, warmth)
- If I remove the word “should” from my vocabulary this week, what do I actually want to do?
- How can I be a friend to myself when things don’t go according to plan?
- What is one small way I can honour my energy levels today?
- Like a seed, I can grow around any obstacle that comes my way today.
- I choose to be flexible, knowing that my strength comes from my ability to adapt, ,not my ability to be perfect.
- My value is not defined by how many things I check off a list, but by the intention I bring to each one.
- I give myself permission to release the weight of expectations that do not serve my pace.
- I am choosing to go against the grain and write a future that feels light and sustainable.
- I have enough momentum for today, and that is more than enough.
- I am focusing on the feeling of success rather than the fear of falling short.
- I am stepping into a version of myself that feels energetic, capable, and calm.
- Every small step I take is a victory that builds a habit for my future self.
How to Use
Get creative and make them into art in your bedroom, put them up on poster board, write them on your mirror, or write them in your day planner. Every time you see one say it to yourself three times. Pro-Tip: Doing this in front of a mirror while looking at yourself is a great way to ground the intention.
In Closing
Your vision is allowed to change as you do. Add or edit your board whenever you are feeling called to. Change the affirmations as you see fit to support you. Remember, not every tool works for every person. So take what you want and pass on the rest. The point is that you make an effort to discover the tools that work for you; so be open-minded and give new tools a try!
