DC Universe Rebirth: Batman: Vol 2. I Am Suicide

Book 34 of 2023

Summary

In this second instalment of the five part volume collection of the “I am Gotham” Batman story line written by Tom King and illustrated by David Finch the reader gets the next piece of the puzzle. Each volume is it’s own piece of the puzzle of the bigger picture that is the Batman of this story line. There is a motive behind the design of each piece of this puzzle. Each one can stand on its’ own but there is an undercurrent that links them all. In this volume a few of the relationships that Bruce Wayne and Batman have are explored in depth with an unsaid agenda. Will the reader actually know more than before or realize they know nothing? Is this fate aligned? Only time will tell.

Thoughts and Review

I am impressed by the intricacy of what I have read so far of this five volume story line. It is as if these first two volumes are smaller pieces of a larger vision that the author had in mind for Batman. I found the details revealed in conversation between Wayne and Selena enlightening of just what they share and what they do not. The action was intense and stellar in execution and the humanity was beautifully captured. To be able to apply realism to something as abstract as an idea or figure (such as Batman) is a noteworthy accomplishment. I think this will be the first graphic novel series that I do purchase.

Review

Of course I will recommend to any Batman fans. There is just something about him right? Between the action, colourful characters, and intricate plot lines what is there not to find interesting? With characters you may or may not know joining the ones you know so well this is a great read! It is possible to read this volume on it’s own but I would recommend reading the volumes in order. Happy Reading!
