Book 6 of 2023

A Summary

In this novel James Becker creates a story about the Titanic sinking that is something more. It is a fascinating story full of government agencies, spies, good guys, bad guys, and a historical event that to this day still captivates our attention. With the possibility of a great war on the horizon a spy from Great Britain and the United States join forces to thwart the possibility. The Titanic is the stage the novel plays upon. At the start of this novel you have to ask: Is the Titanic sinking what we thought it was or was the incident something more?

Thoughts and Review

I read this book because my son asked to pick out a book for me at the public library and he was captivated by the cover of the book with the scene of the Titanic on dark water. After reading the synopsis on the back I decided I would give it a shot. From the first page to the last I was captivated. What a page turner! I couldn’t put it down! It is something entirely exciting about falling into a book so well when you know the history, have seen the movies, and know the corridors so well.

With an exciting start the book ends with a satisfying ending. There is absolutely no slow start or winding up to be found when you pick up this book. A story with spies, government agencies, and villains you can despise in the backdrop of the Titanic history we know so well. This book was the intense page turner that I was looking for. I found it refreshing that the main characters were not pushed together in a forced relationship. How often have we read a book where it is just absolutely ridiculous that those certain characters got together when it was completely unnecessary and we were interested in the story instead. That one thing told me the author was passionate and confident in his main story that he didn’t need the filler. The author’s note at the end addresses some of the theories and questions we often have about the Titanic. All in all wonderfully written. I highly recommend.

Recommendation

This book has everything; history, historical fiction, mystery, murder, spies, government agencies, and revenge. If you are looking for an extremely fast paced book that you can get lost in this is the book for you. The author is a masterful weaver of excitement, history, and twists. Warning: This book will pull the reader into the trap of “one more chapter,” until two in the morning.
