Summary

Zak Bagans, creator and investigator, for the Ghost Adventures paranormal show and documentary writes about his experiences as a paranormal investigator. Using his life experience and research he explains how his life has been changed and continues to change from his experiences with the paranormal. There is so much in life that we cannot understand but in his field Zak is attempting to understand the mystery and phenomena. By searching out his own answers he is opening the minds of those that watch his show and inspiring them to interpret their own experiences and those featured in each episode. Within the pages of the book he hopes to motivate others to do what they can in their own lives to understand the unexplained around them. To find a place to exist within their world. To make their own differences in the world around them.

Thoughts and Review

Being such a big fan of the show, “Ghost Adventures,” it was only natural to seize the opportunity of finally checking this book out of the public library. From watching the show so much it was easy to see him speaking through his book in his signature pacing and passionate voice. Certain sentences and phrases read as if he was speaking to the reader directly. Included in the book are different photographs taken from their investigations. The book isn’t just a topic of Zak Bagans as a person but also members of the team. From reading the book you get an inside look into what makes Zak tick. The reader will have insight into the passion that inspired the creation of what “Ghost Adventures,” is today but also how it continues. The pace at which the sentences flow match the way Zak speaks in investigations and the interactions you see between the crew. If I hadn’t watched the show in such an extent before reading I may have found the flow very different (perhaps even annoying) from books I normally read. The book is more like an extended conversation than a biography of sorts. In my opinion it was a refreshing detour from normal. A television show on the paranormal cannot just ride on the phenomena to continue to captivate audiences. It has to be able to have a bigger motive and idea behind it and through reading this book the reader could define that bigger idea themselves. By reading the book there is a new lens to watch “Ghost Adventures” with and the sense of better understanding of the background (unfilmed) environment is achieved.

Recommendation

I do recommend this book to any “Ghost Adventures,” fans of course. Although he had the assistance of Kelly Crigger to write this book don’t let that deter you. That writer was more a smoother out of the thoughts. It is funny I thought of myself as I wrote this sentence; those moments when I get talking about something I am really interested in and it turns into a rambling excited rabbit hole. As you read this book it really does feel like a one-sided conversation and from that conversation Kelly was able to smooth it out and make sentences (without the jumping around that I imagine occurred on the raw audio) that blend and flow seamlessly. By reading this book I believe the reader will learn more about Zak Bagans as a person and what motivates him and what he does. The book gives the reader a small glimpse behind what drives his passion to create. Creative people always have this fascinating energy to them and I think in a small way it is captured here in the pages. Happy Reading!
