Book 8 of 2023

A Summary

It is book three and Hannah Swensen is back! While determined to put all her focus into her bakeshops’ preparations in the annual Lake Eden Winter Carnival murder once again falls into her lap. This time it is a famous member of the culinary world that succumbs to death in Hannah’s own bakeshop the Cookie Jar. Just like in the previous books the victim of the murder has a life all her own before ever coming into the pages much to the added benefit of the reader. With her determination and now infamous blueberry muffins Hannah must discover who the killer is to save her bakery. With the characters of Mike, Norman, Delores, Andrea, Lisa, and (of course) Moishe adding to the case you are sure to be entertained. Can Hannah solve this newest murder? Or will she be undone by her blueberry muffins?

Thoughts and Review

Once again, Hannah provided a fun mystery to get lost in. Each character brought their own flair to the story with Hannah’s sister Andrea stealing the show as she finds her own confidence and abilities as she develops as a character. Although you have your ideas of who did it… it is a delightful surprise to discover the true culprit at the end. With a murder victim who is not lacking in the made enemies department there is a smorgasbord of suspects to choose from. A real treat of the audiobook version is the narrator once again captures the feel of the characters bringing her own flair to the novel. This was a fantastic read. Adding in Hannah’s mysteries into my regular reads brings a really fun break from the more serious books that make it on my reading list.

Recommendation

If you are looking for a cozy mystery series you can get lost in this is the series for you. This latest instalment is a lot of fun. The characters you have come to know through the first two books are there to delight, entertain, and grow as individuals. Do not pick up this series if you are looking for something realistic and full of in-depth forensics. The audiobook edition narrated by, Suzanne Toren is a delight to listen to as she captures each character in a dynamic way. Happy Reading!
