DC Universe Rebirth: Batman: Vol 1. I Am Gotham

Book 31 of 2023

Summary

In this graphic novel you discover an example of what Batman had always wanted to create in the first place an everlasting sense of inspiration to do good. That is found here within the pages with a brother and sister duo. While Bruce Wayne was always motivated by the death of his parents to tackle the underbelly of Gotham City in this graphic novel he gets to witness a repetition of history in a way. Long ago he rescued half of this duo and their parents from an act of violence so similar to the way his own parents were taken. Now, he gets to see how someone else would undertake the journey that he did. Now they are all a formidable team but will they be enough to turn Gotham around? Or will the underbelly rear it’s ugly head as it seizes power?

Thoughts and Review

I never did get a chance when I was younger to read comic books and graphic novels didn’t make an imprint on my reading radar. In the spirit of making up for lost time I decided to take a reading detour and borrow a few Batman themed graphic novels from the public library. Of course Batman being my favourite superhero from childhood made Batman a logical start for my detour. Exploring the Batman universe in this manner was a real treat for me. I really enjoyed it. Exploring the world through this medium was so interesting.

Even though Batman as a figure has his automatic qualities there is always room for them to grow in impression. It is like a conversation I had years ago. When you have a favourite superhero whatever new information you learn about them through comics, books, stories, fan fiction, movies, or shows simply adds to the character (in your mind) making them more lifelike. Almost as if the characters become more solid. With the the theme of the new duo coming into the picture to complete a vision in a way of Batman’s there is another dynamic added to your vision.

Recommendation

I would recommend this book for anyone who is a fan of Batman. This was a young adult graphic novel so it is not too visually violent if you were going to recommend to a young person. I thought it was very entertaining and the extra art included at the back was great for the imagination. There is always a wondering of what ifs in stories, television shows, or movies. In this series the reader is getting the opportunity of an alternate view (or rather additional view) of the Batman world. Happy Reading!
